“I’m Not a Techie!” – Why Building a Website is Easier Than You Think (And How We Prove It)

Welcome back to the Nexum Training Centre blog!

Checkout this post we shared some general tips to boost your skills. Today, we want to get personal about one specific offering: Web Design and Development.

We hear it all the time from potential students. You look at a course description that says “HTML,” “CSS,” and “WordPress,” and a little voice in your head says:
“That looks too complicated.”
“I’m not a computer person.”
“I’ll break something.”

We understand. The internet can feel like a vast, scary machine. But here’s the secret: You don’t need to be a genius to build a website. You just need a guide.

Let’s tackle that fear head-on and show you how simple the first step can be.

The Fear: “I don’t know where to start.”

The blank page is terrifying. But you don’t build a house by starting with the roof; you start with the foundation. In web design, the foundation is HTML.

The Teaser: Your First Line of Code (In Under 60 Seconds)

You are about to write real code. Don’t worry, you can’t break anything by trying this.

  1. Open a simple program on your computer called Notepad (on Windows) or TextEdit (on Mac).

  2. Type (or copy) the following lines exactly as you see them:

<h1>Hello, my name is [Your Name]</h1>
<p>Today, I built my first webpage.</p>

      1. Now, click File > Save As.

      1. Name your file index.html.

      1. Make sure to select “Save as type:” to All Files (or “Web Page”).

      1. Save it to your Desktop.

    1. Double-click the file.

    What do you see?

It opened in your web browser! You just told the computer to display a headline (<h1>) and a paragraph (<p>). You didn’t need expensive software. You didn’t need to be a “techie.”

    You just built a webpage.

    Why Wasn’t That Scary?

Because you took a small, guided step. Learning web design isn’t about memorizing a million codes. It’s about understanding a few simple rules and then building on them step-by-step.

    • HTML is the structure (the bones).

    • CSS is the styling (the clothes and makeup).

    • WordPress is a tool that lets you put it all together easily.

    Imagine What Comes Next

If you can write one headline, you can write ten. If you can write a paragraph, you can add an image. Soon, that simple file on your desktop can become a live portfolio to show off your Graphic Design work, a small business site for a local shop, or a blog to share your journey learning French or English.

Stop Being Scared. Start Being Curious.

Don’t let fear hold you back from a skill that empowers you. In our Web Design & Development course, we don’t just throw jargon at you. We start right here, at the very beginning, holding your hand until you are running on your own.

You don’t need to be a tech wizard. You just need to be willing to learn.

Ready to build something amazing? Let’s write your second line of code together.
